£50,000 energy savings identified at Lightwater Valley

£50,000 of annual energy savings have been identified at one of Yorkshire’s biggest attractions.

It comes after Lightwater Valley brought in energy management consultancy Orchard Energy to find as many ways as possible to reduce its carbon footprint and reduce its energy consumption.

£500,000 to help north Liverpool families connect

A project to improve the lives of disadvantaged families in north Liverpool has been awarded almost half a million pounds by the Big Lottery Fund.

Liverpool Lighthouse in Anfield has been helping to inspire hundreds of disaffected young people and provide skills training for adults since opening in 1998.

Milestone for AFG after sign up of 200 dementia friends

Alternative Futures Group (AFG), recently voted Charity of the Year, has supported staff to become Dementia Champions as part of the Alzheimer’s Society campaign to create one million Dementia Friends by 2015.

AFG supports more than 1200 people every year with learning disabilities and mental health needs providing around the clock support within the community, in peoples own homes or in one of eight treatment and recovery centres across Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

Crosby music shop marks 4th birthday with Fender deal

Harmonics on Crosby Road North also has a successful music school and employs around 15 people. The business is owned by Andy Frampton, who at 21 was the youngest independent music retailer in the country.

More than 120 people were at the shop to enjoy an open mic night and a demonstration by Damon Chivers of Fender UK.

Statement issued on behalf of Erick Maina family

“Erick was our baby and our best friend and we miss him greatly. He inspired us and we are grateful of the time we had with him and the experiences we shared as a family. We’ve only all recently returned from a safari in Kenya and returned full of hope for the future.

“He was an unselfish boy who was popular with everyone and we’ve been overwhelmed with the support from across the community. We’ll remember him for raising hundreds of pounds for Marie Curie but wanting no fuss made about his achievements – even though he’d shaved off his Afro twice to raise money. That was Erick. That was a true measure of his personality. He wasn’t after self-praise, he just wanted to help others.

Investment continues for Heritage GB revenue increase

Figures released by Heritage Great Britain plc show an 8% increase in revenue and a 5% increase in visitor numbers across its Heritage Attractions portfolio compared to last year.

The portfolio includes Snowdon Mountain Railway and The Needles on the Isle of Wight whose combined revenue increased by £1.1m.
