North West charity Alternative Futures Group (AFG), whose head office is in Prescot on Merseyside, is celebrating after being crowned Charity of the Year at this year’s Charity Times Awards.
AFG, which supports more than 1100 people every year with learning disabilities and mental health needs, beat off competition from Citizens Advice, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Stroke Association and United Response in the charity with an income of more than £30 million category.

A project that runs activities for the over 55s in Liverpool has received a £5000 cash boost from the Santander Foundation.
The money was donated from the Foundation’s Community Plus initiative and has given regulars at a monthly tea dance, run by Kaleidoscope Integrate (KI) in north Liverpool, an extra spring in their step.

Passengers on Snowdon Mountain Railway at the time of the First World War have been revealed following the discovery of its original visitor books.
The owners of the railway, the only one of its kind in the UK, decided to make the books contents public to mark the hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War in 1914.
