Gung-Ho!, which is bringing Europe’s largest inflatable slide to Newcastle in September, as part of a unique 5k race, is joining with charity Smile For Life to help raise funds for disadvantaged and disabled children in the North East.
The Gosforth-based charity which was formed in 2007, has been chosen by organisers of the race, which is a first for Newcastle and features ten huge inflatable obstacles which participants have to navigate their way through.
Charity volunteers will help steward the event on 19th September at Newcastle Racecourse in return for a donation from Gung-Ho! as well as staff and supporters taking part to raise funds.
CBeebies presenter Alex Winters who came up with the idea and will host the race said:
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for Smile For Life to raise money by not only holding collections on the day but also by supplying volunteers who Gung-Ho! will pay an hourly rate for each to the relevant charity.
“Of course charity volunteers and supporters can enter the race and get sponsored which is a really fun way to raise money for such a worthy cause.”
Paula Gascoigne, chief executive, Smile For Life said:
“Smile For Life is delighted to be involved in Gung-Ho! It’s such an exciting event where participants have the chance to make a difference to the lives of so many children while having huge amounts of fun.”
Danny Adams, Smile For Life patron, panto star and comedian said:
“It’s such a fun way to help local children and hundreds of people have already got involved. It will provide a real boost to our fundraising and means that the charity can continue to give young people the opportunity to achieve their potential to live a full and happy life.”
The event takes place at Newcastle Racecourse on 19th September and intro tickets are still available for £35 until July 17th and £40 after this date until August 14th.
