Liverpool hospital charities go Gung-Ho! with CBeebies Alex

Gung-Ho!, which is bringing Europe’s largest inflatable slide to Liverpool next month, as part of a unique 5k race, is joining with two hospital charities to raise funds for their new buildings.

Alder Hey Children’s Charity’s £30m new hospital appeal and R Charity £10m Appeal for the New Royal have been chosen by organisers of the race, which is a first for Liverpool and features ten huge inflatable obstacles which participants have to navigate their way through.

Charity volunteers will help steward the event on 29th August at Aintree Racecourse in return for a donation from Gung-Ho! as well as staff and supporters taking part to raise funds.

CBeebies presenter Alex Winters who came up with the idea and will host the race said:

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for both our charity partners to raise money by not only holding collections on the day but also by supplying volunteers who Gung-Ho! will pay an hourly rate for each to the relevant charity.

“Of course charity volunteers and supporters can enter the race and get sponsored which is a really fun way to raise money for two extremely worthy causes.”

Cath Harding, head of community fundraising, Alder Hey Children’s Charity said:

“Alder Hey Children’s Charity is delighted to be involved in Gung-Ho! It’s such an exciting event at an iconic venue where participants have the chance to make a difference to the lives of so many children while having huge amounts of fun.

“We are just months away from opening our new children’s hospital and we still need the support of the local community to ensure we create a world class facility for children and young people in Liverpool and across the UK.”

Loren Slade, events fundraiser, R Charity, said:

“R Charity £10m Appeal for the New Royal is thrilled to have Gung-Ho as a partner! This is a great idea where people can have loads of fun and help to create a world-class New Royal hospital that will benefit millions of future patients. We’re so excited and raring to go!”

Alder Hey is due to open later this year with the New Royal scheduled for a 2017 opening.

The inaugural event takes place at Aintree Racecourse on 29th August with events also scheduled in Newcastle and Windsor in September.

Tickets are available for £40 until July 24 and £45 after this date until August 21. For more information about Gung-Ho! and to book tickets visit www.begung-ho.co.uk follow on Facebook: BeGungHo or Twitter: @BeGungHo
