Another PR success for Boxed Off Communications recently saw thousands take part in Gung-Ho! – a unique 5k fun event featuring huge obstacles including Europe’s largest inflatable slide.
The event, which took place at Aintree Racecourse during August Bank Holiday weekend, was the culmination of months of work, which saw Liverpool-based PR firm Boxed Off secure coverage across local press, radio and TV in Merseyside.
However, the Liverpool event was just the start, with two more exciting events in Newcastle and Windsor still to come.
It took a team of twenty people a whole day at Aintree to assemble the course of ten challenges including a gigantic ball pool, massive foam pit and mammoth climbing wall.
Liverpool FC legend Robbie Fowler was the first to give the course a go including the final obstacle, a 53m long slide called ‘The Thriller’ which is higher than three London buses.
The event is a UK first for Merseyside and local charities are also expected to receive a funding boost, with hundreds taking part to raise money for Gung-Ho’s! charity partners – Alder Hey Children’s Charity’s £30m new hospital appeal and the R Charity’s £10m appeal for the new Royal.
The concept was the idea of CBeebies presenter Alex Winters who also hosted the race:
“Watching people as they try to climb, scramble and bounce their way around the course has been a great laugh and certainly put a smile on everyone’s faces.
“It’s exactly what I had hoped would be the reaction when I thought up the idea. We wanted people to have fun and enjoy the experience whether they were taking part or watching.”
